The choice of stock images attached to a web to print template don’t have to be bitmaps only. Vectorized art can be a better option in some cases to achieve a higher quality as well as a smaller file size. Here’s how you can take advantage of the .EPS file format in your web-to-print templates.

Lets make a calendar template in which the users will be able to choose a month from a selection of choices.

In a nutshell, we will place an image placeholder on the calendar page, upload vectorized .eps images of all the months of the year and assign them to the template so that the users can pick any 3 months out of 12.

Before you start

• Add pages in your template, a front and back cover page and several pairs pages for the spread. A top spread page is for pictures and a bottom spread page for calendar grids.
• Input the dummy texts and turn them into variable web-to-print fields.

Calendar page

You can import some basic PDF calendar and make adjustments to it. Here are a few links to download free PDF calendars:

Import a calendar page from the PDF file. Import the text as Text if you want to be able to change the fonts later.

You can also make your own calendar grid from scratch. Use the CorelDRAW table tool to make the grid and fill in the dates.

The calendar page in your template should have an image placeholder so that it can be replaced by any of the EPS month images. Simply select the objects that form the calendar, go to Bitmaps/Convert To Bitmap and turn it into a variable image field.

Export the EPS calendar pages

Select all the shapes and text that form one month of the year and click on the Export icon in the top menu or press Ctrl+E.

Choose EPS – Encapsulated PostScript as the file type, select the Selected only check-box and click Export.

In the EPS Export window, use these settings.

The exported file should only contain the objects that you selected.

Repeat this step to export EPS files for all the months separately. Download the calendar grid EPS files used in this template.

Upload all the pages (months) in your image gallery and assign them to the calendar grid page as an image selection.
