Text inside text
Overlaying text with another text creates a cool typography effect, resembling a watermark. It is very easy to use in web-to-print templates.

Before you start

- Add a page frame (Layout/Page Setup/Add Page Frame). This will create a rectangular shape with the exact same size as the paper size of your template and place it as a bottom layer.
- We need 2 text fields: the background content text and the large letters text.
- Make the background text (Content Text) a Paragraph text frame and overflow it to resize the font automatically.
- Make Large Letters field an artistic text frame.
- Make sure both text frames are variable web-to-print fields.
Rotation and alignment
/
/
Select both text frames and rotate them equally just a bit.
/
/
/
/
/
Select the background text, duplicate it and change its color to something different from the original one (Ex. A lighter shade of gray). Place the copied text frame inside the large letters text as a PowerClip.
/
/
Select the large letters text PowerClip and assign No Fill to it from the palette to make it transparent.
/
Your Object manager (Window/Dockers/Object Manager) should now look like this.
This template will contain two input fields on the site. One for the large letters and one for the background text. Since the Content Text field has two copies with the same object name, the users will change both the white and gray text by entering text into a single input field.
Positioning
The large letters text now contain a different color duplicate of the long content text inside them. Positioning them exactly on top of each other is crucial.
/
Select the original content text frame and copy its position (x and y) coordinates from the top properties bar.
/
/
Right click on the large letter text and go to Edit content. Select the text inside the PowerClip and enter the same position coordinates that you copied earlier. Exit the PowerClip (Right click/ Finish Editing This Level).
/
/
The result should be similar to this.
All done!
Our web-to-print software can handle this effect easily! Upload the template into your catalog and test it.
