Here are some ideas to help you create a vintage type of text for a web-to-print template and make it appear like it was written on old damaged paper.

Before you start

• Add a page frame (Layout/Page Setup/Add Page Frame). This will create a rectangular shape with the exact same size as the paper size of your template and place it as a bottom layer.
• Input the dummy text and turn it into a variable web-to-print field.

Fonts

For this technique we need some vintage font to make the text appear as it is handwritten and damaged. Download the Aenima font or any other font you think will do the trick.

Ink drops

Lets add some ink splashes on the paper that the text is written on. You can create your own ink drops, trace an image or simply use the “.” character from the same or a similar font to the one we’re using in this example.

Select the splash and place it inside the background shape as a PowerClip.

Duplicate the splash shapes or import different ones and spread them arround.

To make sure the text will be readable, you can assign lighter colors to some ink drops.

The result should be similar to this.

Paper texture

To achieve a more realistic effect, you need to add some texture to the paper. The easiest way to do this is to use some crumpled old paper image as a semi transparent layer.

Import the bitmap and place it on top of all the other objects.

Assign a 50% Uniform transparency to it and choose “Substract” as the transparency operation.
